**A site audit crawls up to the plan's page limit from one start URL, obeys robots.txt, and ranks 25 kinds of problem as critical, warning or info. Page speed is an opt-in Lighthouse measurement on up to 10 pages.**

A site audit crawls a site page by page and lists what is broken, ranked by
how much it matters. netweft runs its own crawler, so a crawled page costs
1 credit.

## Run an audit

On **Site audit**, set the run's options and choose **Run audit**:

- **Crawl up to**: 10, 50, 200, 1,000 or 5,000 pages, capped by the plan:
  1,000 on Pro,
  2,500 on Studio and
  5,000 on Agency.
- **Start URL**: leave it empty to start from the project's domain, or name a
page such as `https://example.com/docs` to audit one section.
- **Measure page speed**: opt-in, described below.

The audit holds credits for the full page count before it starts and is
charged only for the pages it crawled. One audit runs per project at a time,
and the plan caps audits per month across the whole workspace:
60 on Pro,
150 on Studio and
300 on Agency.

## How the crawler behaves

- It starts at the start URL and follows links breadth-first, so the shallow
pages are crawled before the deep ones.
- It stays on the start URL's origin.
- It reads `robots.txt` and skips any path disallowed for its user agent,
`netweft-audit`. A site owner can allow or block it by that name.
- A `401`, `403`, `429` or `503` answer counts as the crawler being refused,
reported as **Crawler was blocked**, and not as a fault in the page.

## Issues

Every issue has a severity. The audit page counts critical issues and warnings
at the top, and the severity filter narrows the list.

| Severity | Issues |
| --- | --- |
| Critical | Crawler was blocked; Broken internal link; Missing title tag; Server error |
| Warning | Page returns an error; Conflicting canonical; Duplicate page content; Duplicate meta description; Duplicate title; Images without alt text; Missing h1; Missing meta description; Orphan page; Redirect chain; Slow server response; Thin content |
| Info | Page is buried deep in the site; Heading levels skip a step; Meta description is too long; Meta description is too short; More than one h1; Page links nowhere; Page is set to noindex; Title is too long; Title is too short |

Open an issue to see every page it affects. **Pages crawled** lists each page
with its title, HTTP status, word count and whether it can be indexed.

## Page speed

**Measure page speed** runs Lighthouse on a sample: the start URL plus one
page of each kind the site has, such as a category page and an article, up to
10 pages at 50 credits each. Each
measured page reports:

- Performance, accessibility, best-practices and SEO scores, 0 to 100.
- Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift
  and Time to First Byte.

## Export and delete

Export an audit's issues as CSV from the audit page. **Delete audit** removes a
finished audit with its crawled pages, issues and scores; the credits it used
are not returned. A running audit cannot be deleted.
