**AI visibility counts the AI answers that name the project's domain on Google or ChatGPT, how often those answers are asked for, which pages they cite, and how the domain's mentions compare with its competitors'.**

**AI visibility** measures how a domain shows up inside AI answers rather than
in the ten blue links. It reads one assistant at a time:

- **Google AI answers**: the AI-written answers Google shows above search
  results.
- **ChatGPT**: answers from OpenAI's assistant.

## Run a check

Pick the assistant and choose **Check AI visibility**. Nothing runs until you
ask, because each check is a paid lookup of 2,150
credits. Switching to the other assistant is a separate lookup. The same check
within 24 hours answers from a stored copy and costs nothing.

## Read the result

| Figure | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| Mentions | How many AI answers in the dataset name the project's domain. |
| AI search volume | How often the questions behind those answers are asked. |

Below the figures:

- **Share of voice** compares the domain's mentions with those of the
  project's competitors.
- **Cited sources** lists the domain's pages the assistant cites, with how many
  citations each has.

## Competitors

The comparison uses the competitors recorded in the project's
[context](/docs/project-context), up to nine of them. With no competitors
recorded, the check still reports the domain's own figures and the share of
voice has nothing to compare against.

The data vendor rebuilds its AI answer dataset about once a month, so checking
more often than that rarely changes the figures.
